ITINERARY

Day 0: Arrival

To get the very best from your workshop, we recommend arriving at least one day before the journey begins. That way, you can begin Day 1 rested, focused, and ready to fully enjoy the adventure and photographic experience ahead.
Better Moments will arrange your hotel accommodation and other practical details, allowing you to settle in, relax, and recover from your journey.

Day 1: The Journey Begins

Better Moments team will pick you up from your accommodation in Windhoek, and we’ll set off north in our private Toyota Land Cruiser 4×4 towards the Angolan border.

Before crossing into Angola, we settle in for the evening at our lodge near the border. Over dinner, Christian Nørgaard will introduce you to the journey ahead, discuss the photographic approach to working with indigenous communities, and prepare you for the days of exploration to come.

Day 2: Into Angola — Meeting The Mundimba

After an early breakfast, we cross into Angola and continue towards Cahama, where we meet our local tribal guide and translator before heading into the surrounding countryside to meet the Mundimba.

Known for their distinctive traditional appearance, intricate hairstyles and strong cultural identity, the Mundimba offer our first glimpse into the rich tribal cultures of southern Angola. With our local team, we spend the day photographing and learning about their way of life.

Meanwhile, we set up our own private camp, where a dedicated team of chefs and assistants prepares everything for a comfortable overnight stay. Spacious private tents with proper beds and essential amenities provide a welcome retreat after a full day in the field. In the evening, we gather for dinner and review the day’s images with Christian.

Days 3-5: Into Kunene — The Tribes of Oncocua

We continue west towards Oncocua, one of southern Angola’s most remote regions. Our private 4×4 takes us deep into the landscape, where we establish our camp for the next three nights.

With our local tribal guide and translator, we explore the area and spend time with the Himba, Hakaona, Mundimba and Zemba, photographing their traditions, daily lives and distinctive cultural identities.

Our mobile setup gives us the flexibility to follow the best photographic opportunities throughout the day. At camp, you’ll return to a spacious private luxury tent with a proper bed, while our dedicated team takes care of meals and everything needed for a comfortable stay.

Evenings are reserved for portfolio reviews, image discussions and lectures with Christian Nørgaard.

Day 6: From The Wilderness to Lubango

After our final morning in Oncocua, we leave the wilderness behind and journey towards Lubango, where the pace slows and comfort awaits. Settle into your hotel, enjoy a proper shower and take some time to recharge after days in the field.

In the afternoon, we come together with Christian Nørgaard for an inspiring image review, reflecting on the photographs, stories and encounters from the first part of the journey.

Day7: Below The Leba Pass — THE Mucubal & Ngendelengo

We make an early start and descend the legendary Serra da Leba Pass, one of Angola’s most spectacular mountain roads. Our destination is the territory of the Mucubal and Ngendelengo tribes.

With the guidance of our local team, we spend the day with the tribes, photographing their people, traditions and daily lives. The Mucubal are particularly striking subjects, with distinctive clothing, hairstyles and adornments that provide endless possibilities for intimate portraiture and detailed visual storytelling.

Christian Nørgaard will guide you throughout the day, helping you approach each encounter with respect and intention.After a full day in the field, we return to Lubango for dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 8: Meeting The Mumuila

An early start takes us to the Mumuila community, where we spend the day learning more about their traditions and everyday life while creating thoughtful, natural portraits.

With guidance from Christian Nørgaard, you’ll explore how observation, connection and small details can come together to create a compelling visual story.

We return to Lubango for our final evening in Angola and a farewell dinner.

Days 9: Back Across The Border — From Angola to Namibia

After breakfast, we begin our journey north towards the Angolan border.

We cross back into Namibia and return to our lodge near the border, where you can relax and recharge before the final chapter of the workshop begins.

The evening offers another opportunity to review images with Christian and discuss the photographic stories emerging from your journey.

Days 10-12: Opuwo — Into The World of The Himba, Herero & Zemba

We continue to Opuwo, a gateway to the diverse communities of northern Namibia. From here, we spend three days exploring the surrounding region with our local guide, meeting members of the Himba, Herero and Zemba communities.

The Himba are renowned for their distinctive appearance, traditional dress and ochre-covered skin, while the Herero are instantly recognisable for their elaborate Victorian-inspired clothing and striking presence.

With time to slow down and connect, we’ll focus on respectful portraiture and everyday moments, guided by Christian Nørgaard throughout the experience.
Evenings at the lodge bring portfolio reviews, photographic lectures and discussions with Christian, allowing you to reflect on the day’s work and develop your visual storytelling.

Day 13: The Road to Windhoek — Reflections on the Journey

After breakfast, we begin the long journey back towards Windhoek.
After checking into our comfortable accommodation, there is time to relax and prepare for our final evening together. We gather for a farewell dinner, raising a glass to the people, places and photographs that have made this adventure possible.

Day 14: Until The Next Adventure

After breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye as you continue your onward journey or make your way to Windhoek International Airport.
The workshop may be coming to an end, but you leave with far more than a collection of photographs – taking with you the stories, encounters and experiences gathered along the way.

Getting ThereYour journey begins with arrival at Windhoek International Airport. To ensure you are well-rested for the drive, we strongly recommend arriving at least a day before the workshop starts.

Better Moments will provide:

  • One pickup transfer from the airport on the official arrival day.
  • One return transfer to the airport on the official departure day.

Namibia is one of the sunniest places on earth, enjoying approximately 300 days of sunshine per year.

  • December – March: Warm and humid with occasional localized rainfall.
  • April – May: Pleasantly dry, with clear skies and comfortable temperatures.
  • June – August: Cooler months, with dry landscapes and excellent wildlife photography opportunities as animals gather around waterholes.
  • September – November: The weather begins to warm up again, making it an ideal season for travel.

Language
The official language of Namibia is English, spoken widely throughout the country. Additionally, you may hear Afrikaans, German, and various indigenous languages, depending on the region.
